Dear Parent / Carer,
As I am sure you are aware, on Friday 4 May a stage of the Tour De Yorkshire will be starting from Barnsley town centre and passing through Hoyland and the surrounding areas.
As a result, there will be several rolling road closures and amendments to public transport services throughout the day. This may result in travel disruptions which could affect journeys to and from school both in the morning, with the Women’s Peloton due to pass through Hoyland just after 9am, and in the afternoon, with the Men’s Peloton due to pass through just after 3pm.
As Netherwood Academy will be opening as normal in the morning, we advise students and parents to make themselves aware of the expected disruption to roads and public transport and to plan their journey to school accordingly. Recognising that this may mean that some students wish to arrive earlier than usual, the academy building will be open to students from 7:30am. Lessons will start at the usual time of 8:25am.
To minimise the disruption potentially caused by the end of the school day coinciding with the Tour, and to afford our students the opportunity to watch this prestigious sporting event themselves, Netherwood Academy will close to all students from 1.30pm on Friday 4 May (after our usual lunch time).
This early closure will enable students to make their journey home free from the potential disruption caused by the road closures which are planned for later in the afternoon. You can find further information regarding the route of the Tour on the website, www.barnsley.gov.uk/TDY
As with any early closure arrangements, procedures will be in place for families who would like their child/children to stay in school until the usual time of 2:30pm. Should this be the case, then I would be grateful if you could contact the academy via email by Friday 27th April 2018 at contact@netherwoodschool.co.uk
In the meantime, I’d like to thank you for your on-going support.
Yours sincerely,
Miss A Wells
Principal
Please also note the school bus will still run next Friday and will pick students up at 1.30pm for the early closure.
