MAKE-UP AND NAIL VARNISH
Make up should be natural and not noticeable. Students will be asked to remove any makeup that is noticeable on arrival at school. Nails can be painted with clear nail varnish but coloured nail varnish and acrylic nails are not allowed in school due to health and safety reasons. Acrylic/gel nails are not allowed in school.
JEWELLERY & PIERCINGS
No jewellery should be worn whilst in the academy with the exception one pair of stud earrings and a watch. Other items of jewellery such as rings, necklaces, and bracelets are not allowed. Students are not permitted to have other piercings of any kind. Students attending school with jewellery will be asked to remove them in the first instance, but if this happens again, the jewellery will be held for safekeeping until parents collect the jewellery in person. Notes will not be an acceptable alternative, so please ensure you discuss this with your child and support school by checking them.
Unnatural colours of hair are not allowed in school, nor are extreme hairstyles that can cause unnecessary distraction e.g shaven hair or patterned hair styles.
COATS, JACKETS & HATS
Students must remove all hats, coats and jackets as they enter the academy. The academy is kept at an acceptable temperature for learning so there is no need to wear additional clothing inside the school building.
Mobile phones have become an integral part of daily life and we recognise that students may need to contact parents either before or after school to confirm they have arrived safely or discuss transportation home. As such, students are permitted to bring mobile phones to school, but they must be in bags or blazer pockets during the course of the school day. Netherwood has state of the art facilities therefore there is no need for students to use mobile technology whilst actually in school. Please rest assured that we will contact you immediately should the need arise. From 8.20 until 2.30 we operate a see it, lose it policy. Should phones be seen in school the following consequences will apply:
- Recorded in reception – phone returned at the end of the school day.
- Phone returned at the end of the school day – letter sent in the post to parents.
- Phone held in school until collected by parents. Meeting with the parent, student and Student Manager.
- A mobile phone ban for the remainder of the academic year.
Parents can help by not ringing or texting during the course of the school day. If you need to contact your child urgently before 2.30, then please contact reception (272000). Students often blame the misuse of phones on parents!
Refusal to hand over a mobile phone when instructed to will result in consequence 3 being immediately applied.
CHEWING GUM/FIZZY DRINKS
Chewing gum and fizzy drinks is are not allowed on school premises at all. Please ensure your child does not bring these items onto school site. This could result in consequences if they do.
Smoking is both illegal under the age of 16 and banned on any school premises, indoor and outdoor. Students found smoking, or standing with smokers whilst they smoke, will receive consequences in line with school’s policy. This policy also includes the use of E-cigarettes and other similar devices.
Tattoos are illegal for minors below the age of 18, with or without parents or carers permission. Students who do have tattoos illegally must keep them covered up at all times.
