The academy has operated a full timetable today and we intend to do so tomorrow.
In line with any organisation, the absence level of staff is higher than normal and student attendance is lower (around 84%). There are some cases of self-isolation but I must stress that this is a precautionary measure instigated by the member of staff or, in the case of a child, the parent/carer. It is up to individuals and families to decide if their attendance at the academy represents a potential risk to themselves or others in their family. If you do decide to self-isolate please contact the attendance officer so that the absence can be correctly coded. Please do not send children back to the academy until the 14 day period of self-isolation has been completed. If we are concerned about the health of a member of staff or a child we will arrange for them to be sent home to self-isolate.
I am monitoring the situation very carefully and will communicate immediately if I need to make changes to the running of the academy. This is a stressful time for many. Families and children will naturally be worried as are our staff. Staff are working incredibly hard and I must ask families to tell children to behave well and not do anything that makes the work of staff more difficult.
The media reporting of COVID-19 reminds us of the vulnerable in our community. I worry desperately about those who may be experiencing difficulty in obtaining food. My staff have asked me to arrange collections for the local foodbank and if you are able, please send donations of food items into the academy whenever you can. There will be collection points in the reception area.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
